Facilitating Remote Tachometry

Two kinds of tacho indicators are available:

  • Horn- Tacho- Indicator Weather- and saltwater-proof
  • Tacho-Indicator Form B, rectangular.

To enable remote tachometry, the use of tacho indicators alongside generators is essential.

HORN tacho-indicators are sturdy moving coil devices known for their exceptional precision, having proven their reliability in challenging operating environments while requiring minimal maintenance.

Designed specifically for outdoor areas exposed to various weather conditions, particularly for marine applications, these indicators come in a weatherproof and corrosion-resistant light alloy casing.

They can be conveniently flush-mounted or built onto surfaces.

Ideal for Marine Usage

The tacho indicators are specifically crafted for external locations that are exposed to the elements, making them ideal for shipboard use. Encased in a weatherproof and seawater-resistant light alloy casing, they are built to withstand harsh weather conditions and provide reliable performance in any environment.

One of the key features of the tacho-indicators is their versatility in mounting options. Whether you prefer a flush or built-on installation, the indicators can be seamlessly integrated into your existing setup, allowing for effortless integration and enhanced usability.

Backed by years of field-proven reliability, the Tacho-Indicators have earned a reputation for their exceptional performance and durability. Their high accuracy ensures precise tachometry readings, providing you with invaluable data for efficient monitoring and control.

Technical Specifications Tacho-Indicator EA
Movement

Moving coil meter movements, current consumption 1 mA at full needle deflection; toe bearing and shock-proof pivot bearing resp., or toe bearing with spring-mounted jewels for extremely severe operating conditions

Needle- Scale

Needle black, dial white; graduations, inscription and figures conform to DIN 43802

Calibration

Normally carried out with reference to a HORN tacho-generator; measuring range and measured quantity can be selected at choice, i.e. any indicating (measuring) range can be assigned to any speed range of the  generator shaft

Reading accuracy

± 1% related to the scale length. With a wire cross section up from 2 x 0.75 mm2 , line lengths up to
100 m will not affect the indication. The temperature drift will not exceed 0.2% for each 10 °C change of temperature. These values conform to classification 1/0,2 (VDE 0410)

Temp. range

-20°… +45° C

Installation position

If not specified otherwise, indicators are calibrated for vertical mounting (position of the dial). Other mounting positions as per drawing below will be considered, provided the order specifies the angle of inclination of the scale with reference to the horizontal plane

Finish

Grey structure lacquer, with a seawater- and acid-proof enamel

Enclosure

IP 66

Electrical connection

Flat terminals to DIN 41000, flood-protected (enclosure IP 66). For the shipbuilding industry, the indicators are supplied with a screw cable gland M 24x1.5 (DIN 89280) instead of the Pg 7 gland

Type approval

Germanischer Lloyd

Scale illumination

24, 115 or 230 V; EA 106 ...available without scale illumination only, EA 107... can be operated with 24V only. The dial is transparent. The illumination can be adjusted or switched off by means of a dimmer DW 85 e (in separate box) or WIXG 122/... K (without box). The scale of indicators with clamp fixing can be illuminated indirectly by light slots

Calibration

To characteristic curve or table of customers; reading accuracy: ± 1.5 % related to full scale length

Adjustment

Should a readjustment of the indication be required, then this can be achieved via a potentiometer (DW) accessible on the rear of the casing. The potentiometer can be provided with a locking device (DWf) to prevent a displacement after the adjustment

Tropical protection

All indicators can be manufactured in tropicalized execution upon request

Special versions

Cover glass: non-reflecting or safety compound glass black dial with white graduations; pointer tip, main graduations, figures and measured quantity phosphorescent, scale ground after- glowing; graduations, figures, pointer and measured quantity black, scale with precise graduation, single or dual graduation; scale stretched in the initial or final range, zero hushed up to 25 % of final value (for 240° needle-deflection); dual or multiple scale by special calibration or additional graduation, coloured markings at any place of the scale, coloured sectors or bands, additional captions on scale

Technical Specifications Tacho-Indicator Form B, rectangular
Movement

Needle black

Scale

Changeable scale, dial white; graduations, inscription and figures conform to DIN 43802.

Calibration

Normally carried out with reference to a HORN tacho-generator; measuring range and measured quantity can be selected at choice, i.e. any indicating range can be assigned to any speed range of the generator shaft. Furthermore it is possible to calibrate the indicator based on customer’s requirements or to the input values for
example 0...10 V or 0/4...20 mA.

Adjustment

Should a readjustment of the indication be required, then this can be achieved via a potentiometer (DW) accessible on the rear of the casing

Reading accuracy

± 1,5% relative to the scale length: With a wire cross section up from 2x0.75 mm2 , line lengths up to 100m will not affect the indication. The temperature drift will not exceed 0.2% for each 10 °C change for temperature. These values are conform to classification 1.5/0.2 (VDE0410).

Temperature range

-20°C ... +70°C

Installation position

If not specified otherwise, indicators are calibrated for vertical mounting (position of the dial). Other mounting
positions as per drawing below will be considered, provided the order specifies the angle of inclination of the scale with reference to the horizontal plane.
