FCS Consumption Kit for Marine Use

The Fuel consumption System (FCS) from Flomec is a complete fuel monitoring system that gives you an accurate measurement of fuel consumption rates and total fuel consumption.

The fuel consumptions system is used on board of all types of boats and vessels from small to medium sized engines. The system instantly calculates an accurate fuel consumption and shows the flow rate and totalization on the included display.

The kit includes:

  • 2 x EGM-Series Electronic Flowmeter
  • 1 x F127 Totaliser
  • 2 x Meter Brackets
  • 1 x Fuel Strainer plus Connector
  • Cable Glands.

EGM Flowmeter

High accuracy

As the Fuel Consumptions Systems comprises two EGM positive displacement meters and an F127 flow instrument it can accurately measure fuel consumption of combustion engines. This is possible, as the FCS can correct the temperature differences from the inlet to the outlet of the engine.

The renowned positive displacement meters give you an accurate and economic way of measuring you fuel consumption for all engines sizes. This is possible because of the:

  • Pulsating flow electronics
  • Elimination of error due to fuel injection pulsation
  • Integral PT100 resistance thermometers.

Kit Selection

To reach this high accuracy the kit selection is crucial.

The Fuel Consumption Kit might consist of the same items. However, the size of the engine is important as is in direct correlation with the rate of the flow that determines the change of the meter and the process connection.

This becomes apparent, as the average diesel loop system would have 3,5 times more fuel in its line than what the engine consumes at full load.

Selecting the correct kit based on the engine’s power output is, therefore, essential to secure accuracy and the durability of the positive displacement meter.

The positive displacement principle

The Oval Gear Meters use a measuring principle, where a pair of oval-shaped gears in a measuring chamber rotate by the force of the liquid on these. The liquid flows into a chamber and is sealed off once the chamber is full and produces either an electronic pulse or drives a gear to register the volume as it exits the chamber. 

As illustrated in the example on the right, the pulse is generated because the (green) liquid is sealed from both the inlet (red liquid) and exit (blue liquid). This set up would produce four pulses as the meter transmits four identical volumes for every cycle. 

Thus, it matters which Flowmeter you choose because the simplest meters register each time a bucket is filled. Here the total volume would be the sum of the number of buckets filled. In the complex meters the discrete volumes passed each time can be summed together to see the overall volume passing through the meter.
