Engine rooms and refrigeration machinery spaces present distinct gas hazards depending on the fuel type, refrigerant used, and ventilation conditions on site. Carbon monoxide from combustion, methane or LPG from fuel systems, CO₂ from industrial processes, and nitrogen dioxide from engine exhaust are all gases that may accumulate in non-classified enclosed spaces and require fixed detection.

The SMART 3 NC covers all of these gas types within a single detector platform, making it a practical specification for facilities where multiple gas hazards need to be monitored across different points in the same installation. SMART 3 NC vs SMART 3 R - Choosing the Right SMART 3 Detector

Both the SMART 3 NC and SMART 3 R are from the SMART 3 series for non-classified areas and share the same core sensor platform. The distinction is in gas type focus and feature set:

SMART 3 NC - covers flammable gases, toxic gases, and CO₂. Relay outputs and RS485 are optional. Requires a control panel. The appropriate choice where the primary hazards are combustion gases, LPG, or CO₂ in a panel-managed installation.

SMART 3 R - focused on refrigerant gas detection with broader sensor coverage including A2L refrigerants. Includes RS485 and 3 relay outputs as standard, and an integrated data logger. F-Gas Regulation compliant. The appropriate choice for refrigerant leak detection applications and installations requiring data logging or standalone relay output capability.
