QS200 Turf Irrigation Flow Sensor

The Insertion Ultrasonic Flow Sensor in the QS200 Series from Flomec provides a highly accurate reading of liquid flow rate and accumulated flow.

The QS200 is available in five pipe sizes, 1 to 4 in, and the ultrasonic insert is offered either with a PVC tee or as an “insert retrofit” for replacement of existing paddlewheel flow sensors.

Highly accurate with Exceptions Leak Detection

The QS200 Turf Irrigation Flow Sensor measures water flow rates that are five times lower than other flow sensors on the market.

Furthermore, it offers extended leak detection down to 0.1 feet per second. That means it can detect leaking valves, blockages, and other hidden irrigation system problems that other flow sensors can’t.

It solves the problem with most flow sensors!

Most standard flow sensors, paddlewheel, and nutating disc have mechanical parts that must start moving before the sensor can detect any flow. The flow rate must be high enough to overcome the friction, so the mechanical parts begin moving.

That may not be a problem with some applications, where mechanical flow sensors work well, but commercial irrigation is different. The low flows typical in drip lines and bubblers often aren’t enough to make the mechanical parts moving.

The Reading; “no Flow” on your sensor

The sensor reads “no flow” even when there is flow in the pipe – it’s just below that sensor’s ability to see it! Getting a “No Flow” reading could conceal small system leaks. These small leaks add up to significant losses over time.

You can precent water loss! Even a “small” 0,3 Gallon pr. min. leak adds up:

  • 18 gal (68 L) every hour
  • 432 gal (1635 L) in one day
  • 12,960 gal (49059 L) in one month
  • 157,680 gal (596884 L) in one year

That’s an enormous waste of water if undetected!

So how do you know if your meter’s “No Flow” reading is true? If you’re using a mechanical flow sensor, you don’t know.

How can the QS200 Help You?

The QS200 Turf Irrigation Flow Sensor’s measuring principle is smarter than most of the typical measuring devices for low flows.

The QS200 has no moving parts as it uses ultrasonic technology to detect flow. Thus, it measures flow rates as low as 0.22 GPM and can detect leak down to 0.1 fps!

Moreover, it offers a highly accurate reading of liquid flow rates and accumulated flow.

The ultrasonic insert is available with a PVC tee for new installations or as a retrofit “insert” for easy replacement of an existing paddlewheel flow sensor.

Description of Insertion

The QS100 Turf Irrigation Flow Sensor is designed for above and below grade applications, such as irrigation, municipal and underground monitoring.

Common for these settings must be, that the flow rates are between 0.1 to 15 fps (0.03 to 4.6 m/s) and temperatures are below 140° F (60° C).

QS200 inserts are supplied with two single conductors. As well as, 18 AWG solid copper wire leads that are 36 inches (914.4 mm) in length with UL Style 116666 direct burial insulation.
