Its Zone 1 ATEX certification covers the majority of classified spaces found on commercial vessels - engine rooms, pump rooms, battery compartments, and refrigeration machinery spaces. Beyond marine, the SMART 3G D2 is equally suited to industrial and commercial environments where Zone 1 classified areas require certified fixed gas detection - including chemical plants, food production facilities with ammonia refrigeration, parking and tunnel installations, and offshore platforms.

For operators running mixed fleets or vessels with multiple hazard zones, the D2's common platform reduces the number of detector variants to maintain without compromising on gas type coverage.

Choosing Between the SMART 3G C2 LD and SMART 3G D2

Both the C2 LD and the D2 are Zone 1 / Category 2 detectors sharing the same sensor platform, certifications, and output options. The primary distinction is the C2 LD's integrated data logging capability. If your installation requires exportable measurement records - for compliance, audit, or maintenance purposes - the C2 LD is the appropriate choice. If data logging is not a requirement, the D2 covers the same gas types and hazardous area classifications.
