Sensitron SMART 3G C2

The Sensitron SMART 3G C2 is a fixed gas detector for Zone 1 hazardous areas, certified to ATEX Category 2 and rated SIL2 (hardware) / SIL3 (software). It detects flammable, toxic, VOC, and refrigerant gases across four sensor technologies - catalytic, infrared, electrochemical, and PID - and includes an integrated data logger exportable via STS/CKD-OLED or STS/CSW+ software.

Detectable gases

The SMART 3G C2 is available in sensor-specific variants. The gas type must be matched to the correct sensor at time of order.

Catalytic sensor: Flammable gases: methane (CH₄), LPG, butane, propane, and other hydrocarbons

Electrochemical cell: Toxic gases and oxygen: carbon monoxide (CO), ammonia (NH₃), oxygen (O₂), and others

Electrochemical cell (intrinsically safe): Chlorine (Cl₂), sulphur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂)

Infrared (IR): Flammable gases, CO₂, SF₆, and refrigerant gases

PID: VOC (volatile organic compounds)

Zone 1 Gas Detection Across Marine and Industrial Installations

The SMART 3G C2 shares the same Zone 1 / Category 2 certification and sensor platform as the SMART 3G D2 and C2 LD, making all three suitable for the same classified hazardous areas. The choice between models comes down to housing form factor, data logging requirements, and specific installation constraints - rather than gas type coverage or certification level, which are consistent across the range.

For marine applications, Zone 1 hazardous area detectors are typically required in engine rooms, pump rooms, battery compartments, refrigeration machinery spaces, and other enclosed areas where flammable or toxic gas accumulation is possible in normal operating conditions. The C2's wide sensor range - covering ammonia, methane, carbon monoxide, oxygen, refrigerants, and VOCs - makes it a practical choice for installations covering multiple gas hazard types within a single vessel.

Choosing Between the SMART 3G C2, C2 LD, and D2

All three models are Zone 1 / ATEX Category 2 detectors with identical sensor technology options and certifications. The practical differences are:

SMART 3G D2 - Standard Zone 1 detector without data logger. The D2 features a 4-digit display and 5 status LEDs as standard, and non-intrusive calibration via magnetic pen.

SMART 3G C2 - Zone 1 detector with integrated data logger, exportable via STS/CKD-OLED or STS/CSW+. Also available with BIM files for building information modelling documentation.

SMART 3G C2 LD - Zone 1 detector with integrated data logger in a different housing configuration from the C2. Suited to installations where the C2 LD enclosure is the preferred or required form factor.
